MakuluLinux Mate Edition Preview !

Posted by raymerjacque on March 21, 2014 at 5:50 PM

I have been keeping this Version a secret until now, Mostly because it has been a difficult version to build on, Mate is currently considered miles behind the the more popular of the desktop environments available out there, it doesnt even support GTK3 yet... However, Mate being my most favorite desktop environment, I saw this as a challenge that I just had to bite the bullet and make it work....

So now I present to you a preview video Clip on MakuluMate Test Build 1 of the Imperium series of releases. This video clip will show off some of the features we are also implementing into the upcoming Xfce Impreium release, However, this clip is about mate, not XFCE so I will keep the topic limited to Mate chat only.

Please take care to notice how smooth it runs, how fast it runs and how bloody awesome it looks for a GTK2 desktop :)

Here is the Video Clip Preview of MakuluMate :

Good job! Would be nice if you kept slingscold in the Mate release. Well done, I love it.

Looks great...I haven't been grabbed by mate so far, but this may well be the beginning. The app menu i used to find annoying...too busy, but like anything I guess it takes time to adjust or tweak...so seeing as it is Makulu, I will look forward to it. :-)

Well the default menu in Mate is easy to add to the panel, Unfortunately Mate is limited in Menu options, But after using the mint menu for a day or two it quickly grows on you.

Damn, that is good news and also a weird co-incidence - I was just contemplating posting in the forum to ask about Mate.

I use XFCE on my own box, but have just been working on a Mate setup for a project I am working on.

I was also contemplating putting my name in the hat as a beta tester - I will no go ahead and do that now.

Mate is my favorite DE, hence i kept the project on hold for so long, I did not want to release Mate if i could not make it Magical and worthy....

There is alot I kept back in the video Clip, I am busy uploading a Test build right now to send to testers, so if you want to test, i recommend you send in your Application ASAP. This mate version will blow your mind, it is unlike any other in existence :)

After day 1 of testing the Mate build....it is fab, love the ability to strip down to minimal system in a couple of clicks (not that I would remove anything from the build). Numerous other tweaks too, which no doubt we will refer to here in the coming days.

Some great time-saving tools for newcomers and seasoned Linux users alike.

I haven't been too interested in Mate, until now...and so I continue to test in anticipation!

What if I use an application which is based on GTK3 or Qt? Would that be still possible with the MATE edition?

Coming to the end of the week for MAKULU MATE test build 1. Some really nice new features coming your way and it looks fab, as Makulu always does! Right click option on an app - via Mint Menu - UNINSTALL - one more click and the app is gone! :-)

Hi! Makulu MATE Edition looks very promising. But I hope you'll continue the development of the other versions too, like KDE and especially E17 (I know that XFCE is on your priority list). I must say that the E17 edition really impressed me. Your interface innovations are great, the software package is well chosen and covers the needs of an average user, the customization posibilities are wide. Can't wait to see the next release, maybe even improved. Thank you.
