Mate Panel Missing Bug

Posted by raymerjacque on April 20, 2014 at 7:30 AM

Seems that some packages from official mate repo and testing repo is conflicting and it removes the "mate-desktop-environment" package.

A really easy and simple "quick fix" is to do the following :

On desktop, right click and open Terminal and type the following commands :.

  • sudo apt-get update
  • sudo apt-get install mate-desktop-environment

You may get some authentication messages, just enter yes and skip past those, it will patch 3mb and afterwards you type into terminal

  • sudo reboot

I am busy with Mate build 6.1, which i will be putting out soon, i will make sure this patch is fixed in the new build, the current users affected bu this bug, please just follow the simple instructions above.

I will patch this issue in Makulu Repo for those new users that install Mate 6 current version.

HI. There is something related to the "taskbar" that I need to mention. So, when the system is booted in VB, the Slingscold launcher icon is positioned in the left side of the right group, next to the volume control. In the live mode, the right group icons are also in the wrong positions. If for the most icons the issue can be solved by moving them, for the Network indicator (wich remains too remote, on the left side of the others) this is not possible, because it has not a "Move" option. I did not install the OS on the hard disk yet, so I don't know if the same thing is happening in this situation too. Anyway, I think this shouldn't be happening in any situation. Thank you.

This query belongs in the forums in its own topic, not in a blog where i posted a missing panel fix ! You are lucky i saw your post at all ...

Post a screenshot please, i am not understanding what you are seeing... Also tell me what resolution your Monitor is using ?

And Please make a proper topic in forums so we can have it nicely structured, you never know when others may have the same questions and they will not find anything in the forums because you posted in a blog section.

Sorry, I was thinking that it is about an issue coming from somewhere more deep in the OS, and that's why I posted here. Since I made my previous post I tried to boot on another computer. Somehow, the problem is hardware dependant, probably from the video card. I apologise again and I hope you'll solve as soon as possible the Panel missing bug.

I really like the install of this software. I could not believe how simple it was. After doing the patch; each time I log on...I get asked for admin password for updates. Do what is asked then log off/RESTART and I will get the same thing every time. I can use the package updater and check, says updates are current. Yet the bottom right shows a shield with "i" and says there are 3 updates ready. It seems like it is the patch updates. Not 100 percent sure. I have stopped/cancel the admin password requests and do what I need. Do I need to download the 6.1 version for all this to stop? Are there other options?
