Volume Control Missing in Panel in Flash

MakuluLinux-15 Flash uses Volti to control the Volume. Although this tool works well, it has problems recognizing more than one audio card in your PC, and only sets itself up to use one. If your PC has more than one Audio card, and your speakers are connected to the one Volti hasn’t recognized, you won’t have audio control in your panel.

However, there is an easy way to add the Audio card you are using to the Volti configuration so you can access it via the panel.

In your user’s home directory, open /.config/volti/config in an editor.

You will see something like this at the top of the file:

[card-0]
control = Master
mask_control = 8191
mask_lock = 0

Now select that part of the file, copy and paste it so you have two instances of it. Then in the 2nd instance replace [card-0] with [card-1], so it looks like this:

[card-1]
control = Master
mask_control = 8191
mask_lock = 0

Now further down in the [global] section there is an entry “card_index = 0”. Change that entry to:
card_index = 1

Then save the file.

Then logoff and log back on. You should now have the volume indicator in your panel. If not you may have even more soundcards in your PC, and you would just have to edit the file above again and add further cards.

Here is an example of the conf file in one of my PC’s:

[card-0]
control = Master
mask_control = 8191
mask_lock = 0

[card-1]
control = Master
mask_control = 8191
mask_lock = 0

[global]
mixer_show_values = 1
scale_increment = 1.0
card_index = 1
icon_theme = Default
scale_show_value = 0
mixer = alsamixer
show_tooltip = 1
notify_position = 0
keys = 0
toggle = mute
mixer_internal = 1
notify_body = <span font_desc=”14″ weight=”bold”>{volume}</span>
<small>{card}</small>
<small>{mixer}</small>
keys_backend = xlib
run_in_terminal = 1
notify_timeout = 2.0
show_notify = 0
